2015 Coteaux du Languedoc Rouge (Magellan, Domaine)

Domaine Magellan, Coteaux du Languedoc Rouge, Languedoc, France, 2015

{sustainable} 55% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 15% Carignan

DRIED BERRIES, ROCKS IN THE WARM SUN, DECEPTIVELY SERIOUS

Bruno Lafon comes from the family of one of the most storied estates in Burgundy, but he’s found his calling in the south of France. He moved to the Languedoc two decades ago, a move he describes as “self-liberating”. Drawn to what he calls the “new terroirs, new grape varieties, and new challenges” of France’s Mediterranean coast, he joined forces with his late sister-in-law Sylvie Legros to create Domaine Magellan. This classic red shows off what drew him to the region in the first place; friendly berry notes from Grenache meet spice and earth from Syrah and Carignan, giving us a classic expression of the sunny south.

Serving Suggestion: Slow roasted pork from the crockpot in a richly seasoned homemade mole sauce. Bacon & blue cheese bison burgers w/ charred root vegetables on the side.
