2016 Pinot Noir "Southern Valleys" (Spy Valley)
Spy Valley, Pinot Noir "Southern Valleys", Marlborough, New Zealand 2016100% Pinot Noir JUICY CHERRYISH FRUIT MARBLED WITH HERBACEOUS SPICE AND NOTES OF RUSTIC UNDERBRUSH Firm, classic, and with brambly undercurrents that remind us of fall, this Marlborough Pinot stylistically rises, perhaps, somewhere between its famous colleagues further south in Central Otago and those from across the Pacific in Oregon’s Willamette. Herbaceous spice and rustic underbrush notes marble juicy cherryish fruit that is unmistakably that of Pinot Noir. Spy Valley takes its eccentric name (and Morse code-adorned label) from proximity to a nearby secure communications base, but the estate isn’t secretive about its passion for terroir and sustainability. Serving Suggestions: Shepherd’s pie w/ ground mutton, onions, & peas topped w/ smashed &/or scalloped sweet potatoes. Pizza w/ pecorino, fiddleheads, leeks, & sliced grape tomatoes.
