2017 Bourgogne Rouge (Vieille Fontaine, Domaine de la)

Domaine de la Vieille Fontaine, Bourgogne Rouge, Burgundy, France 2017

{sustainable} 100% Pinot Noir

Coming to us from a vineyard at the cusp of Mercurey, one of the brightest points within central Burgundy’s Cote Chalonnaise, this elegant yet sturdy Pinot Noir catches the eye with deep ruby shimmers and seduces the palate with an impression of firmness and generosity. Without being inappropriately full-bodied, this wine serves up impressive concentration, dark fruit, and assertiveness that we are more likely to expect from Burgundies at higher price points. The estate’s founder, David Déprés, established the tiny, 10 acre estate through purchasing a vineyard planted to wonderful old vines of between 40 and 70 years of age. Two and a half of these acres yielded this offering...

Serving Suggestion: Tender braised pork loin roasted w/ caramelized onions, chanterelle mushrooms, & field peas. Roasted portobello mushroom cap w/ Gruyère, garlic, & scallions.
