2017 Red Blend (Steindorfer)
Steindorfer, Red "Apetlon", Burgenland, Austria 2010Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, Saint Laurent INKY PLUM, COCOA & TOAST, SUMPTUOUS YET SNAPPY On the banks of the Neusiedlersee (a large, unusually shallow, brackish lake), Burgenland's town of Apetlon occupies the lowest elevation in Austria. It’s also the warmest part of the country, which makes for some seriously ripe grapes conducive to uniquely luscious wines. This bold, juicy offering focuses on native varieties Blaufränkisch, Sankt-Laurent, & Zweigelt. The judicious employment of barrel-aging adds some toasty richness and elevated finesse to this rich, protein-loving red. Serving Suggestion: Firsthand foods brätwurst w/ grilled onions & beer mustard on a crunch roll. Smoked potato pancakes w/ paprika, sour cream, scallions, & chanterelles.
