2017 Rosé Sprizzante "Casanova" (Staffelter Hof, Weingut)

Weingut Staffelter Hof, Rosé Spirzzante "Casanova", Mosel, Germany 2017

{organic} 100% Regent

The Mosel’s Staffelter Hof is best known for its serious Riesling offerings and fun (yet by no means frivolous) experiments in the world of “natural wine,” but this fresh, lively spritzer of a rosé is a wolf of a different color (just look at that handsome devil on the label). Clocking in closer to off-dry Prosecco than Moscato d’Asti, the gentle residual sugar here is consummately brunch-enhancing. The grape responsible is a hybrid whose Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, and Chambourcin (a hybrid, itself) heritage contributes to its remarkably blight-resistent properties, so perhaps this is the fountain of youth? These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.

Serving Suggestion: Poached egg goulash w/ potatoes, Vidalia onion, & paprika. Fruit salads! Consider howling and/or speaking German while drinking.
