2009 Vin Jaune [375ml] (Badoz, Benoit)

Benoit Badoz, Vin Jaune [375ml], Cotes du Jura, France 2009

{organic} 100% Savagnin

CLASSIC JURA: OXIDATIVE, SHERRY-LIKE, TANGY & RUSTIC

"The dry sherry of France" is the most common description of this specialty of the relatively obscure wine region of Jura. There the wines are generally split into two styles: aged oxidatively under voile (veil) of "flor"; or without, in a more conventional, fruit-forward style. The analogy to sherry for Vin Jaune (yellow wine) is correct, especially Fino, but it is slightly less intense with lower (natural) alcohol, making it more accessible and often much more complex. This is a perfect example!

Serving Suggestions: The assertive cheeses of this area are a match made in heaven; Comté, Gruyère and Raclette.
