"Drink wine. This is life eternal," famously wrote the ever beauty-seeking Omar Khayyam, and 800 years later, his attitudes and observations resound with timelessness. The Thibon sisters of Mas de Libian have named this delicious cuvée after the 12th century Persian poet and philosopher, and its exotic perfume of rosemary, lavender, and cocoa combine with violet-fruited romance in a sublimely exotic testament to his writings. This wine is hedonistic and nurturing, so heed the advice of Khayyam and take "the daughter of the vine to spouse".

Serving Suggestion: Lamb medallions simmered with sliced dates, saffron, and cumin. Okra, potatoes, and eggplant stewed with caramelized onions, tomato paste, black pepper, and a squeeze of lime juice (served over rice).

This firm but elegantly structured Cotes-du-Rhone features many of the hallmarks of the more famous Gigondas and Cairanne regions on the opposite banks of the Rhone. Taking its title from the childhood nickname of Jean-Pierre Thibon, Libian's patriarch and father to the sisters who currently manage the estate, the "Bout d'Zan" shares with him a dark and very Mediterranean complexion. Richly ripe but chiseled and focused, this is one of the greatest Rhone values we've come across in ages!

This concentrated Cali Grenache isn’t exactly attempting to impersonate its Spanish or French ancestors but bears a resemblance to both, hoisting its intensely violet-black flag high above its head with pride.
