Full-bodied yet balancing its rich ripeness with healthy acidity, this impressive Eastern Languedoc offering carries itself like what would often be a more expensive Southern Rhone white. Time in oak barrels (utilized after a couple years’ service in Burgundy’s Beaune) has imbued a light toastiness that doesn’t detract from the extroverted tropicality or freshness and adds an extra dimension of luxury.

Serving Suggestion: Triggerfish w/ avocado oil & aioli w/ onion rings. Savory, twice-fried plantains & cabbage salad w/ cilantro & orange-glazed carrot ribbons.

Wine is like a grandfather in many ways. We all think ours is the best. In this case, we're right. As unyielding and characterful as our grandfathers tend to be, the Joan Giné is named for the winemaker's grandfather. The rationale was probably more endearing, but it is a timely personification of the poor, slate/quartz soils of Priorat that fetch the region its fame and fortune. After Xavi's vines have sifted through these soils, the juice then wises up for 8 months in new French oak barrels. It's fleshy and juicy with mature layers of tropical fruits, white flowers, and stack stone minerality.

Serving Suggestion: Lobster rolls in the tradition of Maine. Lemon risotto with or without pan-seared scallops and garnished with arugula pesto. Almond-vanilla rice pudding.
