2015 Pinot Bianco (Weissburgunder) "Vom Stein" (Castelfeder, Azienda Agricola)

Azienda Agricola Castelfeder, Pinot Bianco/Weissburgunder "Vom Stein", Alto Adige, Italy 2015

100% Pinot Bianco

TART APPLES, WHITE PEACH, ALMONDS, LITTLE WHITE FLOWERS

What's a grape gotta do to get some attention around here? Pinot Bianco (or Weissburgunder, if you're in the German-speaking Alto Adige) is arguably the least well known of the Pinot sisters, often only making an appearance as a blending grape, and that is sad. Castelfeder winemaker Günter coaxes beautiful Pinot Bianco from the porphyric stone of his vineyard. Lively, vibrant, rich, feather soft and voluptuous ... What's not to love?

Serving Suggestion:  Egg pasta tossed w/ Parmigiano Reggiano, butter, & black pepper. Creamy shrimp salad on toasted brioche rolls. Freshwater trout poached in white wine & served w/ butter sauce.

2014 Pinot Blanc (Baur, Charles)

Charles Baur, Pinot Blanc, Alsace, France 2014

100% Pinot Blanc

AUTUMNAL, ORCHARD-ISH CRISPNESS & BLOSSOMY AROMAS

Juicy and tangy yet delicate and understated, this elegant Alsatian offers us both the vitality and mystery that we crave from these French Rhinelands. Pinot Blanc’s position here remains less lofty than that of it’s darker-skinned counterpart, Pinot Gris, but what it sometimes lacks in power and perfume, it makes up for with subtlety and sublime drinkability. Charles Baur’s Eguisheim estate is a modest, manageable 40 acres, allowing great attention to detail in both the vineyard and the cellar.

Serving Suggestion: Cabbage salad w/ golden delicious wedges, walnuts, & blue cheese. Camembert & other creamy, cow’s milk cheeses.

2015 Weissburgunder Kabinett Trocken (Koehler-Ruprecht)

Koehler-Ruprecht, Weissburgunder, Pfalz, Germany 2015

100% Pinot Blanc

PEAR & CITRUS, FOREST QUINCE & EARTHY HONEY UNDERTONES

This old world delight’s aromas hang ethereally over its surface like mists drifting over a Black Forest stream. Forged at the anti-interventionalist hands of the staunchly traditional Koehler-Ruprecht estate, it embodies a fresh yet delicately rustic take on the grape traditionally referred to as “Weissburgunder” in this neck of the woods. Limestone soils comprise the vineyard, and the grapes are allowed to linger to the point of optimal ripeness on vines averaging fifty years of age.

Serving Suggestion: Baked trout w/ dijon mustard & dill. Edamame. Firm, flavorful cheeses.
