2017 Beaujolais Nouveau Rosé "Griottes" (Vissoux, Domaine du (Pierre-Marie Chermette))

Domaine Vissoux by Pierre-Marie Charmette, Beaujolais Nouveau Rosé "Griottes", Beaujolais, France, 2017

{organic} 100% Gamay

ZANG! BRIGHT MINERAL, FRESH AS A DAISY

Here's a pretty thing. Beaujolais Nouveau Rosé! It's as youthful and fresh as a wine can get, with very subtle red fruit flavors taking a humble back seat to magnificent peppery minerals and zippy acidity. One of the most purely refreshing wines we've tasted all year, and of course made with Pierre Chermette's exacting organic, minimalist standards.

Serving Suggestions: This should keep things lubricated during those hors d'oeuvre-packed pre-Thanksgiving hours.

2016 Beaujolais-Villages Rosé (Grandes Bruyères, Domaine des)

Domaine des Grandes Bruyeres, Beaujolais-Villages Rosé, Beaujolais, Burgundy, France 2016

{organic} 100% Gamay

CHERRY & GREEN STRAWBERRY, LEMON, FENNEL & RADISH SPICE

This lovely rosé pours ballet slipper pink and dances out of the glass with bright, underripe fruit aromas and a spicy herb freshness. One of four selections that we currently (and exclusively for the Southeastern US) offer from Bruyères, a fiercely naturalistic producer. Small and situated across 20 acres just south of Brouilly, smack in the center of the greater Beaujolais region, Jean-Pierre Teissèdre's estate is continuously blowing us away with value and sheer deliciousness.

Serving Suggestion: Arugula salad with strawberries, poppyseed dressing, and goat cheese.

2015 Blanc de Noir (still) (Hillinger)

Hillinger, Blanc de Noir, Burgenland, Austria 2015

{organic} 100% Pinot Noir

WHITE PLUM & QUINCE, DELICATELY EARTHY HONEY, BRIGHT ACIDITY

While the term, “Blanc de Noir,” is typically reserved for sparkling white wines made from red grapes, its application to still wine, like this one from the masterful mavericks of Burgenland’s Hillinger, is not unprecedented. On the one hand, this interesting white is almost as aerodynamic and contemporary as the “ICON HILL" bottle commissioned by the estate from futuristic visionary architect, Zaha Hadid, but there’s an ethereally earthy subtext interwoven in like mist through an Austrian forest – a delicious collision of old and new.

Serving Suggestion: Lightly-breaded char (or salmon...or trout) w/ parsley, white pepper, & tarragon. Herb-crusted chèvre & balsamic beet/arugula salad.

Chateau Haut Dambert, Rose, Bordeaux, France 2016

{sustainable} 34% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33%Cabernet Franc

BRIGHT RED RASPBERRY, RHUBARB & ROSE PETAL

Born in the vineyards "between two seas" this equal-parts cuvée of Cabernet Franc with its offspring, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, drifts calmly yet energetically on its own sea of zesty acidity and vibrant red fruit. Recalling raspberry and dried cranberry, the fruit is ribboned through with wisps of floral and herbaceous perfume. The estate’s Jean-Luc Buffeteau, a trained enologist, treats each varietal differently for this cuvée in order for individual strengths to shine through.

Serving Suggestion: Olive oil-cured albacore w/ pickled artichoke hearts, & raspberry vinaigrette. Zesty tabouli w/ dried sultanas, basil, & olives.

Domaine de la Bouysse, Corbieres Rosé "Floreal," Languedoc, France, 2016

90% Syrah, 10% Grenache

BRIGHT RED BERRIES, FRESH BLOSSOMY AROMA, CRISP & JUICY

Corbieres, one of the most celebrated corners of France's sprawling Languedoc, is best known for its spicy and very Mediterranean reds. Considering this, perhaps it shouldn't be surprising then that this deep rosé is brimming with the distinctive character of Syrah, spice, and white-peppery mineral. This wine bears more than a passing family resemblance to the region's exotic red wines. Sister and brother, Martine Pagès and Christophe Molinier of Domaine de la Bouysse never fail to impress us with the breadth and quality of their work!

Serving Suggestions: Spicy Toulouse sausage casserole with butter beans, leeks, and parsley. Korean BBQ (such as pork Bulgogi) with kimchi and pickled lotus root.

LINI, Lambrusco Rosato "Labrusca Lini 910", Emilia Romagna, Italy (2009)

Lambrusco Salamino, Ancellotta

DRY, LIGHT BERRY, HINT OF TANNIN, EFFERVESCENT

"Labrusca" is the Etruscan name for Lambrusco coming from the Latin labrum, meaning "edge." It is believed that Lambrusco grapes grew naturally along the edges of fields cultivated by the Etruscans food crops. Lini was established in 1910 and today is quite possibly the finest Lambrusco in all of Emilia Romagna. Fabio Lini and his daughter Alicia are responsible for this delicious dry, pink version of Lambrusco. Tart and thirst quenching with light tannin from the grape skins, this gentle pink wine has a firm backbone, perfect with picnic food.

Serving Suggestion: Chilled lightly, this dry rosato is picnic wine for everything from chicken salad, tuna salad, humus and veggies, chips and dip. At the dinner table, try a prosciutto and fresh mozzarella cheese pizza.

BRIGHT RASPBERRY & CHERRY, CLEAN & LEAN, VERY DRY WITH GENEROUS FRUIT

The newest arrival from Paul Direder's small, coveted, and impressively affordable stable of Wagram-borne wines is a rosé featuring the collaboration between two quintessentially Austrian red grapes. The Zweigelt grape and its lesser-known half-brother, Blauburger, have less than a century of existence under their belts, but that doesn't deter them from fueling this light-bodied, pale, and very flavorful dry rosé with spry wisdom and vibrant energy. Relatively low in alcohol, this is destined to become one of our favorite diurnal sippers in no time!

Domaine Cady, Rosé de Loire, Middle Loire, France, 2016

{organic} 50% Gamay, 50% Grolleau

CHERRY & TART DAMSON PLUM, JUICY & CRISP, WISPY MINERAL

A collaboration between the famous Gamay and the decidedly less famous but very rosé-friendly workhorse grape, Grolleau, this vibrant, ruby-tented sipper is an elegantly expressive and beautifully balanced representative of what we love about Middle Loire rosé. While it hails from Anjou, it’s a very different beast from the famously off-dry blushes of the Anjou region we might have expected a generation ago. No, this one is completely dry with flourishes of red berry and tart, stone fruit-like flavors. The finish is cleansing and supported by delicately mineralistic notes, making this a great companion for delicate, salty dishes with high acidity and/or creamy consistencies.

2016 Rosé de Savoie (Carrel, Eugene)

Eugene Carrel, Rosé de Savoie, Savoie, France 2016

STRAWBERRY & STONE FRUIT, PRISTINE WET STONE, ALPINE SPICE

Forged from a combination of the eastern French man about town, Gamay, and Savoie-specific denizen, Mondeuse, this very pale, almost peach-colored, rosé packs a lot more fruit and flavor than its delicate pigmentation might suggest. The Carrel family domaine dates back to 1830 with a contemporary story which began in the 1970s as Eugene began incrementally expanding the vineyard holdings from a meagre seven acres to the 59 that he, his wife, Paulette, and their son, Oliver manage today. Refreshing us with its berryish brightness and elegant stony undercurrents, this pink treat transports us straight to Savoie!

Stolpman Vineyards, Rosé, Santa Ynez Valley, California 2016

{sustainable} 100% Grenache

SPICY STRAWBERRY, RICH FINISH, A HINT OF... PINEAPPLE?

This news probably won't send legions of wine writers racing to their vintage Remington teletypes, but once again Stolpman Vineyards have gone the non-traditional route (surprise, surprise). The Grenache grapes were allowed to ferment as whole fruit for three days before pressing and then the juice spent three months in neutral oak, which is one of those unfashionable acts of chutzpah that can set new standards. We get a super-rich rosé with more tropical and spice notes than the traditional chugger.

Carignan, with its reputation for robust rusticity, is probably not the grape that you'd immediately suspect upon tasting this vibrantly berryish, lean, clean, and by no means mean rosé from the northwestern fringe of the Provençal countryside. As eloquently balanced as this wine is, we can't help but think of it as the adult equivalent of a raspberry-lemon push pop – served cold and filled with firm red fruit flavors and citrusy tang! 2016 Wagram Rosé "Feuersbrunn" (Anton Bauer)

Anton Bauer, Rosé, Wagram, Austria 2016

{sustainable} 34% Zweigelt, 33% Syrah, 33% Merlot

BRIGHT RED BERRY, ZIPPY, MINERALLY & CRISP

A fourth generation winemaker, Anton Bauer has built a reputation for his exacting attention to detail while making traditionally-styled wines in the hills of Wagram. Dry, minerally, and floral with fruit character reminiscent of tangy red berries, and white cherry, this rosé leans a bit more toward what we might describe as "Provençal" in style than it has in previous vintages – light in color and body but bold in flavor and aroma!

Serving Suggestion: Delightful with pea shoot salad, nectarine sections and grilled 'n chilled shrimp; Chicken with Caesar salad dressing and romaine lettuce on a grilled roll.
