SPICY, BLACK CHERRY, OAK & A WISP OF MINT

Nugan Estate's "Third Generation" series is made in their state-of-the-art winery in Griffith, Australia. This is a delicious and amazingly balanced Cabernet showing fleshy currant, dried black cherry fruit, sandalwood, modest tannins and an elegant finish with a wisp of mint. The vanilla oak adds a third dimension, but is appropriately restrained so as not to hide the fresh fruit and earthy tones.

Serving Suggestion: Roast beef sandwiches dipped au jus; beef stew with carrots, potatoes and bay leaf or just for drinking on its own.

It takes a special kind of crazy to take an Australian Shiraz and say "this isn't bold enough," then use an Italian method of adding wine grape raisins to a wine to boost its body, flavor and aroma (Ripasso, or re-pass - hence "second pass"). Lucky for us, the Nugan winemakers are that kind of crazy. Rich and powerful and complex, with aromas of fresh blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries, raisins, accentuated with vanilla, chocolate, and spice, and hints of freshly dug red clay - all supported by velvety smooth tannins. Shiraz dreams of going to heaven and becoming a wine this amazing.. 

Serving Suggestion: Slow-cooked, spice-rubbed beef w/ ginger, parsley & carrot mash. Grilled leg of lamb w/ horseradish gremolata and roasted potatoes, beets, and onions. Kangaroo burgers with smoky blue cheese and sweet potato fries.

Nugan is among the the few wineries that produces well-balanced and refined Shiraz made in a sincere and non-manipulated manner while remaining in the "daily" category! Dive into spiced berry, restrained jelly flavors and black cherry jubilee. The black pepper and vanilla oak serve as a "pie crust" for the wine's fruit. This is typical of Shiraz, but made in a beautifully well integrated manner. Forget the sweet, fruity, cheap stuff. Will the real Shiraz please stand up? And here it is...
