Dr. Heyden, Pinot Noir trocken QbA, Rheinhessen, Germany 2014

{sustainable} 100% Pinot Noir

Satisfyingly rich and Burgundian in style, this Zeppelin of a Pinot revels in the variety's classic character and illustrates why Pinot is now Germany's most planted red varietal!

2013 Riesling Auslese, "Oppenheimer Sacktraeger" (Dr. Heyden)

Dr. Heyden, Riesling Auslese, Oppenheimer Sacktraeger, Rheinhessen, Germany, 2013

JUICY PINEAPPLE, TANGERINE MARMALADE, CHERRY BLOSSOMS

Among our longest-standing favorite producers of Germany, Dr. Karl Heyden and his family started making wines in 1999. After Karl's passing in 2003, his son Frank took the reins, crafting wines of unsurpassed style and elegance. This lovely wine combines Riesling’s citrus and tropicality with suggestions of cherry blossom, sandalwood, and a slight hint of petrol. On the palate, pineapple, stone fruit, tangerine marmalade, old-fashioned rock candy, and white tea shine through richly and with balance – a glass of liquid gold.

Serving Suggestion: Green curry w/ North Carolina shrimp, rice noodles, a fresh Vietnamese mint sprig & red chile fish sauce for dipping. Crisp flatbread w/ bacon & pineapple.

2013 Silvaner "Alte Reben" Trocken (Dr. Heyden)

Dr. Heyden, Silvaner "Alten Reben" Trocken, Rheinhessen, Germany, 2013

{sustainable} 100% Silvaner

FLORAL, CLEAN CITRUS, BRIGHT AND FRESH

Old vine Silvaner is a true rarity in Germany's Rheinhessen. While it remains the second most planted grape (after Riesling) in Germany, it has always been in the shadows. In fact some have even accused it of neutrality. So, Frank Heyden quietly makes this from old vines, and the quality shines so brightly that all shadows disappear in a fresh, zesty, mouth-wateringly delicious wash of Silvaner-ish-ness. Juicy and floral from start to finish, this is a great example of coaxing the best from a grape.

Serving Suggestion: We had this with Frank's mom's carrot soup, smoked trout, and artisanal cold cuts. Everything works with this Silvaner! Very versatile!
