2013 Fixin Rouge Vielles Vignes "En Tabellion" (Rossignol, Domaine Philippe)

Domaine Phillippe Rossignol, Fixin Rouge Vielles Vignes "En Tabellion", Burgundy, France 2013

100% Pinot Noir

VIOLET PLUM & RICH CHERRY, CLOVE & DILL, PEPPERY GRANITE

Fixin, one of the northernmost outposts of the famed world-capital of Pinot Noir, the Cote de Nuits, may remain in the shadows of the area’s other (often ultra-expensive) appellations like Gevrey-Chambertin or Echezeaux, but that doesn’t keep it from being an immensely exciting frontier for adventurous enthusiasts of red Burgundy. The wine’s voluptuous violet fruit, fresh acidity, and beautifully balanced tannic structure could almost evoke an image of the Cote d’Or (the greater northern Burgundian countryside) with it’s distinctive, forest-topped banks, stone walls, and gnarled but beautifully fruit-bearing vines. Divine!

Serving Suggestion: Bacon-cloaked roast quail brushed w/ butter & served w/ white asparagus & wild rice. Cottage cheese-stuffed portobello caps w/ dill & chives served w/ toasted pumpernickel rusks.

2013 Gevrey-Chambertin (Rossignol, Domaine Philippe)

Domaine Phillippe Rossignol, Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy, France 2013

100% Pinot Noir

INTENSE BLACK CHERRY, SWEET TOBACCO & BRIARWOOD, VELVETY & DEEP

A one of many distinctive crowning jewel in the Pinot Noir-dominated Cote de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin lies just north of the regions responsible for what are, on average, the world’s most expensive wines. In fact, it’s unsurprisingly very, very rare that we encounter an example (let alone one that lives up to the lofty reputation of its origin) that clocks in within our infamous $50 ceiling. This stunning rendition was introduced to us by inspired importer Charles Neal, whose impeccable discoveries always overdeliver. Magnifique!

Serving Suggestion: Braised duck breast w/ bay leaves & sherry. Black mushroom risotto w/ peas & dill.
