Chateau du Vaux, Blanc "Les Gryphees", Moselle, France 2015 Pinot Gris & GewurztraminerNECTARINE & PEAR, RESTRAINED HONEYSUCKLE, LEMON & A KISS OF LYCHEE Germany is indeed where the Mosel River ends (in its collision with the Rhein), but it has its beginnings in France, and the Moselle appellation is among the more obscure along this river so famous for viticulture. This cépage from scientist and sommelier, Marie-Geneviève, and her husband, Norbert Molozay (an international winemaking gun-for-hire), features a cast of grapes which wouldn’t be out of place on the other side of the Vosges Mountains in Alsace and/or in Germany’s Rheinland. With vibrant acidity and an understated but exotic nose courtesy of ripe Pinot Gris and a kiss of Gewurz, this wine is memorable for its personality as well as its rare regional representation. Serving Suggestion: Russian winter salad w/ potato, cucumbers, dill, green peas, & thin mayonnaise. Pork knuckle stew w/ sauerkraut.
