2013 Gevrey-Chambertin "Terroir du Domaine" (Seguin, Domaine Gerard)
Domaine Gerard Seguin, Gevrey-Chambertin "Terroir du Domaine", Burgundy, France 2013100% Pinot Noir BLACK FOREST CHERRY PRESERVES. WOODSY SPICE & ROAST CHESTNUTS The Cote de Nuits, the northern half of Burgundy’s revered Cote-d’Or, has been home to the world’s most sought-after Pinot Noir for centuries, and the Gevrey-Chambertin commune is one of its famous focal points. Seguin has a rich history here, the estate’s forbearer, Alexis, actually working on the front lines to battle phylloxera (late 1800s) as an expert rootstock grafter in addition to being an accomplished winemaker. This ambassadorial Burgundy combines bright yet earthy, kirsch-like red fruit with wispy, wintry underbrush, chestnut, and gentle sandalwood-like savoriness. Magnifique! Serving Suggestion: Beef stew w/ cremini mushrooms, fingerling potatoes, & baby carrots. Stilton-stuffed portobello mushrooms w/ diced dried cherries.
