Condrieu’s granite slopes overlooking the town of Ampuis and the Rhone River are Viognier’s home turf, and it’s here that the grape does its most revered work. Intensely characterful, with poignant peach, floral, and tropical perfumes, the variety can border on overblown when grown in hotter climates or allowed to become overripe, but, like the greatest examples of Condrieu, this offering magnificently maintains its freshness with lively acidity, well-defined fruit, and a modern yet moderate 13.5% abv. Voila! C’est Viognier!

Serving Suggestion: Butter-poached, broiled monkfish (lobster is the classic pairing) w/ fresh, sweet tomato halves & basil. Pad Thai w/ fried tofu, cashews, & beansprouts.

The steeply-inclined vineyards of Cote-Rotie overlook the picturesque riverside town of Ampuils. The imposing slopes of its Cote Brun constitute the Northern Rhone’s northernmost extreme and provide the world with some of the most revered Syrah – as beautiful and generous as it is brooding and inflexible. Here, we find the Drevon vineyard of Domaine de Rosiers yielding opaque, mauve elixirs which exemplify classical Syrah as it tastes on its home turf.

Serving Suggestion: Venison & duck stew w/ shallots, parsnips, & cardamom. Stir fried black wood ears, bamboo shoots, scallions, and bean sprouts.
