2015 Bordeaux Rouge "La Croix Blanche" (Grand Portail, Chateau)
Chateau Grand Portail, Bordeaux Rouge "La Croix Blanche," France 2015 {sustainable} 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot RICH STRAWBERRY & SUBTLE EARTH, SILKY BODY, SOFT TANNIN Red wine from Entre-Deux-Mers is a rare find, and we are lucky to have found an excellent example from Chateau Grand-Portail. Young winemaker Olivier Cailleux grows his Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot vines on a small individual plot surrounding an old stone cross (a marker along the pilgrimage of Santiago de Compostela) where they benefit from high elevation and generous sun exposure. A palate of plush red berry fruit is backed by mellow tannins and a silky smooth body, resulting in a fresh and friendly style of Bordeaux. Serving Suggestion: Pizza with belly ham, fresh mozzarella, oregano, and chili oil. Tomato soup with field peas and wheat berries topped with pecorino and served with crusty bread. |

2016 Entre-Deux-Mers Haut-Benauge (Grand Portail, Chateau)
Chateau Grand Portail, Entre-Deux-Mers Haut-Benauge, Bordeaux, France 2016 {sustainable} 70% Sauvignon Blanc, 15% Sauvignon Gris, 15% Semillon MOUTHWATERING LIME, ZIPPY, LIVELY MINERALITY From the smale onclave of Haut-Benage, Grand-Portail overlooks the Garonne River from a lofty 100 meters. The young Olivier Cailleux represents the sixth generation of his family to sustainably till the clay and limestone soils here – soils much like those of Sancerre. Perhaps that helps explain why this Sauvignon-based white has a tantalizingly juicy acidity that simply will not quit! It grips the sides of your mouth with a lime-ish zip and won't let go. The finish lasts for minutes... Serving Suggestion: Anything green or coming from the sea. Maybe the best of both worlds... Salad Niçoise w/ rare tuna, haricot verts, tomato, olives, anchovies, & vinaigrette over some mixed greens. |
