2017 Anjou Rouge (Cady, Domaine)

Domaine Cady, Anjou Rouge, Middle Loire, France, 2017

{organic} 100% Cabernet Franc

BRIGHT CHERRY, FRESH HERBS, SILKY AND CRISP

Cabernet Franc is a key player in illustrious Bordeaux blends like Saint-Emilion, and the solo star of the Middle Loire in villages like Chinon and Saumur as well as the less famous Anjou Rouge. Lighter and brighter than their more complex and expensive neighbors, these wines often fall into a fun category the French call “vins de soif.” Literally translated “wines of thirst,” these are the bottles whose sublime simplicity keeps you reaching across the table for another pour all night long. Phillipe and Sylvie Cady’s Anjou Rouge is translucently ruby with Cabernet Franc's telltale savory herb character and tangy cherry notes keep you refreshed. You can even throw a slight chill on this one in the heat of the summer.

Serving Suggestion: Think of drinking this by the carafe outside a cafe, w/ a fresh baguette & a spread of cheese & cornichons.

VIBRANT LEMON & MUSKY CANTALOUPE, MIGHTY MINERALITY, SWEET, BALANCED.

Coteaux du Layon, a northern enclave of Anjou which takes its name from the Loire tributary, Layon, has gained fame intensely sweet, botrysized dessert wines nicknamed “Sauternes-Killers”. This still sweet yet impeccably balanced, non-dessert offering has what it takes in the realms of both powerful flavor and intense taste sensations to be counted as a true powerhouse. While it can be (and should be, on occasion) paired with desserts, its richness, complexity and elegance makes it a treat in its own right.

Cremant de Loire Brut (Cady, Domaine)

Domaine Cady, Cremant de Loire, Middle Loire Valley, France NV

{organic} 100% Chenin Blanc

ZESTY CITRUS & TANGY APPLE, FLINT, DELICATE GINGER & BISCUIT

The cooler, more northerly regions of France have no shortage of vibrant, elegant sparkling wine to contribute. Joining Champagne are Alsace, Jura, Burgundy, and perhaps most famously, the Middle Loire Valley. Here, Chenin is served well by its tendency toward mouthwatering acidity, mineralistic complexity, and refreshing flavors that manage to layer lemon and tart apple flavors with undercurrents of honey and tropical fruit. This one knows precisely the essential balance to strike between razory, lean restraint and decadent richness of flavor – a tantalizing, seductive dance on the palate.

2016 Rosé de Loire (Cady, Domaine)

Domaine Cady, Rosé de Loire, Middle Loire, France, 2016

{organic} 50% Gamay, 50% Grolleau

CHERRY & TART DAMSON PLUM, JUICY & CRISP, WISPY MINERAL

A collaboration between the famous Gamay and the decidedly less famous but very rosé-friendly workhorse grape, Grolleau, this vibrant, ruby-tented sipper is an elegantly expressive and beautifully balanced representative of what we love about Middle Loire rosé. While it hails from Anjou, it’s a very different beast from the famously off-dry blushes of the Anjou region we might have expected a generation ago. No, this one is completely dry with flourishes of red berry and tart, stone fruit-like flavors. The finish is cleansing and supported by delicately mineralistic notes, making this a great companion for delicate, salty dishes with high acidity and/or creamy consistencies.

Serving Suggestion: Gravlax. Cold rice vermicelli salad w/ cucumber, sweet cherry tomatoes, diced jalapeño, & rice wine vinegar.
