In the southesternmost reaches of France's Rhone Valley, stretching out below Ventoux into Provence, the Cotes du Luberon are provided with monumental doses of Mediterranean influence and stone-soaking sunshine. With a climate and terroir like those found here, scarcely any miracle is necessary in order to yield a sturdy, broad-shouldered, and generously flavorful red like this one. Explosive, dense fruit recalling mission fig and dried cassis is entwined with a healthy dose of both black & white pepper, and the herbs and spices of the Provençal countryside. Not content to simply count itself among the most memorable landscapes along the Tour de France circuit, Ventoux and its sun soaked vineyards have what it takes to produce some very memorable wines. This Syrah-driven heavyweight isn't desirable for its power alone. There's an exoticism of black and red fruits, spice, oaken flavors and earth that culminate in a distinctly Mediterranean symphony of flavor.

From Ventoux, where the Southern Rhone and Provence collide, this white blend brings together a veritable who’s who of white Rhone varieties. While Viognier remains absent, an intensely tropical assortment of fruit essences leads the way to exotic floral nuances that wouldn’t be out of place in Condrieu. The overall impression, however, is a bit riper and more Mediterranean - both elegant and generously fun. Aureto prides itself on the estate's typical (yet exceptional) terroir, the impressive knack possessed by young vigneron and enologist Aurélie Julien, and the cutting-edge techniques employed in the cellar.

BLACK RASPBERRY & EARTHY GOJI, KIRSH & WHITE PEPPER

Gleaming blackish-violet in the glass, this intensely concentrated offering from the intersection of Provence and the Southern Rhone offers a robustly modern twist on the rustic combination of ripe, Mediterranean berry and spicy, herbal earth character long associated with the wines of Ventoux and Luberon. The oft-applied “on steroids” cliché is quite apt in this case, and, in a sense is the specialty of Aureto. The estate's impressive technological investment is fairly unique for the region, and the resultant wines capture the areas terroir while injecting an almost New-World-ish prioritizing of power and finesse.
