2011 Merlot "Le Diacce" (Ciona, Podere)

Podere Ciona, Merlot "Le Diacce" IGT, Tuscany, Italy 2011

100% Merlot

BLACK CURRANT & PLUM, SMOKY SPICE

Resting high in hillsides of Gaiole, a Chianti Classico township, is the estate of Podere Ciona. In this idyllic landscape, Podere Ciona cultivates and produces the Merlot grapes used in this cuvée, "Le Diacce". This elegant red projects generous aromas of french lavender and tart red fruit notes with a finale of chocolate and vanilla. Aged for 18 months in new French oak barriques followed by 12 months in the bottle, this wine radiates its mature personality.

Serving Suggestions: Soy, ginger and chile marinated grilled beef with sesame dressing and salad of edamame, radishes and watercress

2014 Toscana Rosso "Semifonte" (Ciona, Podere)

Podere Ciona, Toscana Rosso "Semifonte", Tuscany, Italy 2014

{organic} 90% Merlot, 10% Alicante Bouschet

BLACK PLUM & BOYSENBERRY, OLIVE & OREGANO, BRIAR & BERGAMOT

This compelling combo of Merlot (predominantly) and Alicante Bouchet (the black-fleshed bruiser offspring of Grenache) more than manages to be Tuscan totale in temperament. Even sans Sangiovese, there’s an unmistakable aura that wouldn’t be out of place in Brunello. Its lack fruit gusto gracefully leaves plenty of room in the mix for distinctively Etruscan rusticities and elegant, herbaceous undercurrents shine through.

Serving Suggestion: Mutton “osso buco” w/ bone marrow-blackberry sauce &/or root vegetable ribollita w/ oregano (warning: instantaneous autumnal teleportation).
