Matteo and Luca Garberoglio are the genial, laid-back fellows behind the 85 year-old Carussin estate, where they spend their days brewing beer and hanging out with donkeys. Oh, and making incredible wine. This powerful Barbera is an homage to the noble donkey, the raising of which has been a passion for Matteo and Luca's mother Bruna for decades. Mostly complex, leathery red fruit reminiscent of a glaze or reduction, the wine gains a bit of edginess while remaining juicy, gulpable, and all around delightful. Get your donkey on!

Serving Suggestion: Juicy burgers with swiss cheese & caramelized onions, pizza with artichoke and hot pepper, game (like venison or boar) w/ a dark fruit glaze.

A special treat from our favorite ass-loving Piemontese, the little known Carica l’Asino grape translates to “load the donkey.” Originally found in Liguria to the south of their native Piemonte, Bruna Ferro and her family couldn’t resist the temptation to cultivate this grape named after their most beloved farm animal. The intriguingly cloudy nature of the wine shines through, manifesting itself in a crabapple-like wildness with subtle tropical notes as well. So load up the donkey and let’s take a trip to Funkytown!
