2016 Cote Roannaise "Eclat de Granite" (Serol, Domaine Robert)

Domaine Robert Serol, "L'Eclat de Granite", Cote Roannaise, Loire Valley, France, 2016

{sustainable} 100% Gamay Saint Romain

ELDERBERRIES & CURRANT, FOREST UNDERBRUSH & SWEET EARTH

Hailing from the monstrous Loire River’s source (closer, in fact, to Beaujolais and the Northern Rhone than to those regions that first spring to mind when we think of the Loire), this fresh, firm, and foresty Gamay has what it takes to simultaneously appeal to admirers of Cab Franc, Willamette Pinot, and the juicy wines of the aforementioned Beaujolais. Stéphane Sérol is a master not only of his region and its Gamay grape but of the exploration of terroir, naming each of his numerous cuvées for their origins.

Serving Suggestion: Thick-sliced virginia ham w/ cucumber, mustard, & dill salad. Chopped boiled potato salad w/ sour cream, parsley, & chives.

Domaine Robert Serol, Les Originelles, Cote Roannaise, Loire Valley, France, 2016

{sustainable} 100% Gamay Saint Romain

BRAMBLY RASPBERRY & BLACKBERRY, AROMATIC, JUICY

Wow this is Gamay to rave about! Robert Serol is a benchmark producer in the Cote Roannaise region. The estate has vines aging from five to eighty years old. All of his wines are 100% Gamay and each reflects the terroir of the vineyards. Les Originelles is the sort of wine we wish we could share with every customer in the store. Just amazingly delicious with sexy fruit, soft tannins, and a drinkability rating of 11 on a 1 to 10 scale. Bright raspberry and blackberry fruit jump from the glass. This is highly aromatic with delicious acidity on the finish. A Wine Authorities Exclusive!

Serving Suggestion: Try this gem lightly chilled (yes, it's a red wine to chill) with cold salmon salad, beef tenderloin sandwiches and grilled fish dishes.

Methode Ancestrale Rosé "Turbullent" (Serol, Domaine Robert)

Domaine Robert Serol, Methode Ancestrale Rosé "Turbullent", Loire Valley, France NV

{organic} 100% Gamay

JUICY RED BERRY & APPLE, CITRUS, LIGHTLY SWEET YET BRACING

This is Robert Serol's most fun take on Gamay, but its delightful effervescence belies some serious thought and effort. Made in the méthode ancestrale, this lovely sparkling wine comes from 100% hand harvested grapes, followed by natural fermentation with no chaptalization (added sugar). It tops out at a deliciously light 11% alcohol, so pour it generously to kick off your next dinner party. It's electric pink lemonade for grownups, and a great introduction to Pet-Nat.

Serving Suggestion: Perfect as an apertif, but great with rich, funky washed-rind cheeses and a variety of creamy desserts.

2016 Rosé "Cabochard" (Serol, Domaine Robert)

Domaine Robert Serol, Cabochard Rosé, Cote Roannaise, Loire Valley, France, 2016

{sustainable} 100% Gamay Saint Romain

CRANBERRY & WHITE CHERRY, RED LICORICE & CANDLE WAX

This rosé is a bright, shiny, pink beacon of glorious Gamay goodness, and it's just perfect for "stubborn" people who refuse to try pink wines for fear of their being sweet. In fact Cabochard is French for a stubborn person, and this is a totally dry wine - no sweetness to be found. Stephane Serol has been head of the estate for the last nine years and loves his rosé so much that he makes three different versions. The Cabochard is crisp with aromas of sun-dried cranberry, red licorice and spicy candle wax - more floral than fruity with light mineral on the finish. A Wine Authorities Exclusive!

Serving Suggestion: Afternoon picnic fare like cold fried chicken, summer squash casserole, and pickled watermelon. Versatile with everything from savory pork to fish.

2015 Viognier "De Butte en Blanc" (Serol, Domaine Robert)

Domaine Robert Serol, Viognier "De Butte en Blanc", Cote Roannaise, Loire Valley, France, 2015

{sustainable} 100% Viognier

JUICY APRIUM & CLEAN TROPICAL FRUIT, WISPY FLORAL & MINERAL NOTES

Viognier, the champion white grape of the northernmost reaches of the Rhone Valley inspires passion, and its rarity only serves to enhance our desire for it. Unfortunately, the grape is all-too-often encountered in nightmarishly overblown caricature, bursting with musky spice and sorely lacking in acidity. This Roannaise offering from Stéphane Serol, however, is tirelessly true to the grape's heritage and potential for elegance, showing clarity and subtlety in addition to exoticism and concentration. Tropical and slick-skinned stone fruit merge with delicate floral notes, clean mineral springiness, and mouthwatering marmalade.

Serving Suggestion: Duck breast w/ plum jelly & smashed potatoes. Gravlax & a hearty salad comprised of arugula, ripe bell peppers, chickpeas, & vidalia onion.
