Robert Serol is a benchmark producer in the Cote Roannaise region. The estate has vines aging from five to eighty years old, yielding ten different wines which each reflect the terroir of the vineyards. The "Blondins" is produced in cooperation with famous 3 star Michelin Chef Pierre Troisgros for his restaurant in Roanne. Hailing from the monstrous Loire River’s source (closer, in fact, to Beaujolais and the Northern Rhone than to those regions that first spring to mind when we think of the Loire), this fresh, firm, and foresty Gamay has what it takes to simultaneously appeal to admirers of Cab Franc, Willamette Pinot, and the juicy wines of the aforementioned Beaujolais. Stéphane Sérol is a master not only of his region and its Gamay grape but of the exploration of terroir, naming each of his numerous cuvées for their origins.

JUICY RED BERRY & APPLE, CITRUS, LIGHTLY SWEET YET BRACING

This is Robert Serol's most fun take on Gamay, but its delightful effervescence belies some serious thought and effort. Made in the méthode ancestrale (aka "Pet-Nat"), this lovely sparkling wine comes from 100% hand harvested grapes, followed by natural fermentation with no chaptalization (added sugar). It tops out at a deliciously light 8.5% alcohol, so pour it generously to kick off your next dinner party. It's electric pink lemonade for grownups, and a great introduction to Pet-Nat.

Serving Suggestion: Perfect as an apertif, but great with rich, funky washed-rind cheeses and a variety of creamy desserts.

This rosé is a bright, shiny, pink beacon of glorious Gamay goodness, and it's just perfect for "stubborn" people who refuse to try pink wines for fear of their being sweet. In fact Cabochard is French for a stubborn person, and this is a totally dry wine - no sweetness to be found. Stephane Serol has been head of the estate for the last nine years and loves his rosé so much that he makes three different versions. The Cabochard is crisp with aromas of sun-dried cranberry, red licorice and spicy candle wax - more floral than fruity with light mineral on the finish. A Wine Authorities Exclusive!

Serving Suggestion: Afternoon picnic fare like cold fried chicken, summer squash casserole, and pickled watermelon. Versatile with everything from savory pork to fish.
