2010 Chardonnay (Belle Pente)

Belle Pente, Chardonnay, Willamette Valley, Oregon 2010

ROUND PINEAPPLE & PEAR, MATURE YET LIVELY

Mature, elegant Chardonnay is something that gets us really excited. Really, quite, very excited.  Unfortunately, few Chardonnays are built to age gracefully, and those that are tend to be prohibitively pricey, but after six years of bottle aging, Belle Pente's Chardonnay is still drinking beautifully.  In one local touch you won't often see, Belle Pente uses 50% homegrown Oregon oak, in addition to 50% French oak.  Despite what sounds like a lot of oak from all over, the wine is not too oaky, since only 10-15% of the barrels are new. Harvesting in two waves gives the wine a perfect balance between rich ripeness and fresh brightness.

Serving Suggestion: Creamy homemade mac and cheese w/ Firsthand Foods Country Breakfast sausage crumbles. Carrot salad w/ lemon-Dijon vinaigrette.

2016 Chardonnay (Stoller)

Stoller, Chardonnay, Oregon, US 2016

FORELLE PEAR & LEMON CURD, ZESTY & FIRM, AIN’T OAKED

From the revered Dundee hills of Willamette Valley, this oak-free Chardonnay has the balance of ripe concentration and zealous acidity that we’re quick to associate with outstanding contemporary white Burgundy from the area’s more southerly regions like Pouilly-Fuissé or Viré-Clessé. It’s no surprise given Oregon’s ever-increasingly cemented aptitude for the varieties native to France's eastern climes. Stoller’s contiguous plots of vines, however, are special, surrounded by mountains that create a uniquely warm mesoclimate and ensure awesome ripeness.

Serving Suggestion: Panfried rainbow trout w/ lemon pepper & skinny asparagus w/ Dijon mustard. Squash & scallion tempura w/ aioli.

2013 Chardonnay Estate (Bethel Heights)

Bethel Heights, Chardonnay Estate, Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon 2013

SUBTLE OAK, CITRUS, SOFT & COMPLEX, ELEGANT

Farmed by twin brothers Terry & Ted Casteel, Bethel Heights Vineyards has been around since 1978 making it the first vineyard in Eola Hills. Their estate Chardonnay is very much in the style of those from Burgundy, lightly aged in French oak barrels, giving it a subtle smokiness, vanilla and spice that matches will with the lemony juiciness of their cool climate Chardonnay.

Serve with: Poached striped bass with chive oil, lemon zest and fennel purée.

2014 Gewurztraminer (Montinore Estate)

Montinore, Gewurztraminer, Willamette Valley, Oregon 2014 {biodynamic} 100% Gewurztraminer

PERFUMY PINEAPPLE, ROSES, LYCHEE. VERY DRY

In the classical style of Alsatian Gewurztraminer, this white is very aromatic and fruit-driven on the nose, but follows through with great acidity and more or less dry finish. We love the clean, pure flowery notes in between the fruit. No oak to be found, this wine is light in acid and full on flavor.

Serving Suggestion: An Asian food perfect match, also great with most Indian dishes and with cows milk cheeses.

CHERRY FRUIT, EARTHY, SMOKE. LIGHT & AROMATIC

We've watched this winery get better every year and now the Marchesi family has produced another great vintage for Montinore! This superb Pinot looks like a Pinot, smells like a Pinot and yes, tastes like a Pinot! Unfortunately this is becoming more rare these days. With a seductive soft red color that is translucent and inviting. The aroma is like perfume with earthy cherry, a whisp of dark chocolate and black pepper. Don't let the color fool you, this is a full flavored and powerful tasting wine!

2016 Pinot Noir "Estate" (Illahe Vineyards)

Illahe Vineyards, Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, Oregon 2016

100% Pinot Noir

PINOT-LISCIOUS CHERRY, DRIED GOJI & FIG, SOFT VANILLA & TOBACCO

Hailing from Mount Pisgah, Illahe’s Pinots are made from Burgundian clones with origins in Pommard and the Cotes de Nuits. On one hand, this offering is distinctly Pinot Noir. On the other, it is arguably distinctive enough to sidestep some of our expectations about the variety and what Oregon’s Willamette typically coaxes from it. For one, it’s more concentrated and deeper in color – more opaque, and while its fruit retains a cherryish dominance that is distinctly that of Pinot, an exotic, dried-fruit dustiness compliments its subtle oaken richness and herbaceous spice gorgeously. Indulge!

Serving Suggestion: Roast duck w/ cranberry sauce & frites w/ duck gravy. Fried eggplant w/ raspberry vinaigrette & wild rice.

One of the oldest wineries in McMinnville, situated on 150 acres of rolling foothills in the famous Willamette Valley, Yamhill Valley Vineyards has been crafting distinctive, charming wines since 1982. This elegant, floral Pinot Noir delights a rustic combination of bing cherry, root vegetable earthiness, flowers, and cinnamon, followed by cedar-like spice and creamy vanilla, and sublime minerality. Distinctly Oregonian, this Pinot manages to express wonderful terroir, flaunt its complexity, and yet remain an astounding value.

BLACK CHERRY & STRAWBERRY CAP, VANILLA & SPICY POTPOURRI

Crafted jigsaw-ish-ly from a variety of Lemelson’s vineyard sites (six, actually) within three of the Willamette Vally's most celebrated sub-AVAs, this juicy Pinot balances powerful ripeness and the distinctive wisps of exotic herbs that some fuller-bodied Oregonian offerings begin to lose in the presence of domineering fruit. Staring a veritable who’s who of Burgundian clones that were harvested in mid-October, the “Six Vineyards” is short on substance in neither journey nor destination.
