2010 Blanc de Blancs Brut (Huia Vineyards)

Huia Vineyards, Blanc de Blancs Brut

Marlborough, New Zealand 2010

100% Chardonnay

GOLDEN DELICOUS, TOAST & BEESWAX, PECTIN & PETROL

The cool-climated viticulture of New Zealand’s Marlborough most famously contributes the dialed-up Sauvignon-ish-ness to the region’s renditions of that famous grape, but it also helps other varieties hailing from colder parts of Europe to find voices similar to the ones they have back home. This Chardonnay-based bubbly takes on a combination of heightened acidity, orchard-ish tartness, and yeasty richness that would be perfectly at home in Champagne. An alpine-esque, petrolic tinge adds intrigue. Three cheers!

Serving Suggestion: Greenshell mussels w/ butter, Sauvignon Blanc, garlic, & lemon. Molten camembert w/ drizzled truffle-infused olive oil & granny smith apples on toasted bread.

2012 Riesling "The Doctors'" (Forrest Wines)

Forrest Wines, “The Doctors’” Riesling 8.5%, Marlborough, New Zealand 2012

[sustainable] 100% Riesling (8.5% alc)

LIME, GINGER, GREEN APPLE. TANGY, LIGHTLY SWEET & LOW ALCOHOL

From husband and wife team Drs. John & Brigid Forrest, comes this novel and delicious wine. Picking the grapes slightly early, enough to capture the fruit character but without too much sugar, they partially ferment the tart juice to 8.5% alcohol leaving just enough sweetness to balance the green grape acidity. Diagnosis? Delicious! Tangy and quaffable, you can drink much more without getting tipsy. Eureka!! You better buy two bottles.

Serving Suggestion: Asian noodles with mussels, ginger, garlic, yellow peppers and green apples.

2016 Sauvignon Blanc "3 Brooms" (Barker's Marque)

Barker's Marque, "3 Brooms" Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, NZ 2016

100% Sauvignon Blanc

LIME ZEST, CAPSICUM, GRAPEFRUIT PEEL, DILL, FRESH HERB

3 Brooms is a sort of family crest for the Barker family in New Zealand. This style of Marlborough Sauvignon is fresh and tangy with a medium body, very ripe fruit flavors, bright acidity and a long finish with a faint spritziness. We love this style for the food friendly nature and juicy core of citrus that blooms from the glass with distinct Jalapeño/Capsicum in the background.

Serving Suggestion: Goat Lady's marinated fresh goat cheese with herbs spread on a baguette; oysters on the half shell with an orange/lemon vinaigrette; mango salsa on seafood tacos.

2015 Sauvignon Blanc "Momo" (Seresin)

Seresin, Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand 2015

{biodynamic} 100% Sauvignon Blanc

GRAPEFRUIT & PIÑA COLADA, HERBS & HONEY, PEPPERY MINERAL

The northeasternmost tip of New Zealand’s southern island has, over the course of the past two decades, climbed to the top of the charts in Sauvignon Blanc production. Marlborough is home to a distinctive style increasingly emulated around the world, and yet this unique offering from Seresin layers an unusual intensity of tropical ripeness over that famously edgy grapefruit and gooseberry sharpness often sought from New Zealand “savvy.” Michael Seresin has worked extensively in the film industry since the 1960s, directing photography for stunning films such as “Gravity” and “Midnight Express.” His keen taste is evident in his wines as well.

Serving Suggestion: Mahi w/ green peppercorn cream sauce & dill. Lemon-seasoned asparagus w/ peppery scalloped potatoes.

2016 Sauvignon Blanc Wairarapa (Paddy Borthwick)

Paddy Borthwick, Sauvignon Blanc, Wairarapa, New Zealand 2016

100% Sauvignon Blanc

CANTALOUPE & MELON. RIPE PASSIONFRUIT. LYCEE & GOOSEBERRY. FRESH ACIDITY.

Having only 3% of land under vine and contributing only 1% of total production, Wairarapa is home to many of New Zealand’s smaller producers. This is where we find the Paddy Borthwick Estate. In 1985, Paddy, as a way to diversify his family’s legacy of farming (over 75 years!), decided to train as a viticulturist and winemaker. In 1996, after working across the globe perfecting his skills, he and his father began planting what came to be Borthwick Vineyard. This Sauvignon Blanc, with a wonderful balance of acidity and tropicality, is a prime example of what the sub-region of Gladstone has to offer. The alluvial soil found throughout the vineyard allows for smaller, more concentrated grapes, ultimately intensifying their flavor. In the end, a quintessential New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc!

Serving Suggestion: Grilled Spicy Grouper Tacos w/ Cilantro-Lime crema & Cotija Cheese. Fish & Chips. Grilled Asparagus wrapped in Bacon.
